Beauty is something that we all want to maintain. That’s why we do our best to maintain a healthy diet, get at least 8 hours of sleep, stick to a regular workout routine, and find a suitable skin regimen. While that sounds like a lot of work, it’s actually easier than you think, especially if you’ve got Botox or dermal fillers to give you an extra boost for that beautiful radiant glow.

Both Botox and dermal fillers are cosmetic procedures that have powerful abilities to restore your skin’s former glory. Although they are both non-invasive and have the same age-defying purposes, they are quite different from one another.

In case you were wondering where their differences lie, this quick guide is here to answer all your questions. Get ready to find out the answers to: Botox vs. dermal fillers: what’s the difference?

Breaking It Down

Botox contains a solution called botulinum, that works by freezing or blocking the nerve signals in the muscles underneath the injection site. By relaxing the muscle and limiting its ability for movement, this cosmetic procedure minimizes the appearance of crow’s feet, frown lines, fine lines and wrinkles. The effects of Botox become fully visible once you hit the fourteen-day mark, and can last up to 6 months.

In contrast, dermal fillers (also commonly referred to as soft tissue fillers) have been formulated with ingredients that incorporate fullness and volume to the areas on the face that have thinned out and sagged due to aging.  Thinning commonly occurs in the cheeks, lips, and around the mouth.

The substances used in dermal fillers may include calcium hydroxylapatite, hyaluronic acid, polyalkylimide, polylactic acid, and polymethyl-methacrylate microspheres. Their longevity varies from one patient to another. The effects of dermal fillers could last anywhere between 6 months to two years.
